Cookies and Cream Mocha

October always makes me think in orange and black because of Halloween (anyone else?). And while Halloween is most definitely not my favorite holiday, I still have a black latte recipe for you today using black cocoa powder. My mind could think in no other colors this month, and therefore, I had absolutely no other recipe ideas to try, but I promise you that despite the intense color, this coffee is sooooo good.

I personally think it tastes like an Oreo cookie (thus the name), and my husband says it tastes like melted Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream. Either way, it’s a fantastic choice for leaning into the color scheme of Halloween or any other occasion you feel a need to drink Oreos in a latte form.

The intense dark brown/black color and Oreo cookie flavor for this recipe come from black cocoa powder! If you haven’t baked with it before, it has a milder chocolate flavor than regular cocoa and is less tangy and more balanced and earthy. I haven’t personally seen it in any grocery stores I frequent, so I’ve been getting mine from King Arthur Flour. I also love making these cookies with black cocoa powder!
